Hare and the Turtle
A short venture over to New Windsor and we arrived at Hare and the Turtle. Thankfully we rang beforehand so we knew we needed to arrive early and had some cinnamon rolls reserved for us. As soon as we arrived we loved the look and feel of the place, a real local treasure. The parking was full but there was street parking. The staff were very friendly and quick to greet us, ready with our reserved cinnamon rolls. The menu is a simple but delicious selection of sandwiches and there was an option (or more than one option) to excite everyone. Their bread was absolutely the winner of the day for us, it was light, fluffy and crispy on the outside. Everyone loved what they ordered and the cinnamon rolls were worth calling ahead for. There is also a selection of menu items for the kids. This place is super family friendly and a lovely local gem. A great place to stop next time you are in need of a great sandwich. We recommend trying to get there early as once their house bread has run out they are sold out for the day.
Mel had the Eggplant Parm sandwich and a cinnamon roll. She said, “For a casual and cool little cafe, this one ticks the boxes. The staff were super lovely, great service and a personal touch which reflected in how many people walked into the cafe to collect their coffees and food orders. They went the extra mile to make sure we got to try their very popular cinnamon scrolls by putting some aside for us when I rang to check if you needed to book a table (you can’t, so go early to make sure you get to try their homemade bread and treats!). The sandwiches were simply put together but packed full of flavour, the buns were crispy and light, some of the best I’ve tasted in a long while. And the cinnamon scrolls … well they lived up to their reputation! Soft and fluffy, covered in a yummy amount of cinnamon sugar and icing. I will be going back to take some home for a treat.”
Sam had the Smokey Bro (Smoked fish burger) and a mocha. He said, “Will be back to try more.”
Sarah had the V.B. She said, “This was their take on a vegetarian breakfast sandwich with egg and hashbrown and damn it was good. So crispy and light and flavourful. The chutney was amazing but the bun, which they make in store was next level. The cinnamon roll was also great but a bit light on the icing for my taste. I will be back to try some of the other options!”
