TWISTED TOMATO
In the suburban back-blocks of Pt Chevalier lies a little gem of a place called Twisted Tomato. The Huskies visited with a special guest and former Husky, Annie, on a glorious sunny day, squeezing into the biggest table in the petite-sized cafe. What Twisted Tomato might lack in sprawl, it very much made up for in flavours, presentation and service. The menu was huge, and filled with lots of great temptations including creatively-fused Indian flavours with European and American selections. The Huskies particularly enjoyed the healthy selection of drinks and were impressed by the exotic tumeric latte option. While unassuming and almost missable from the street, Twisted Tomato proved to be a hidden treasure and a massive tick in the box for the Huskies.
Louise had the crispy pork belly salad and drank the Red Roar freshly-squeezed juice. She said “Loved it. On a hot sunny day, it would have been great to have the doors open to create some airflow but I was super-impressed with all of the food. So flippin’ good. We are coming back.”
Innie had the Mr Benne with wild forest mushrooms & halloumi . She said “Wish the space was bigger so I could stay for a long time to try everything on the menu and the cabinet!”
Katie had the Peri Peri Chicken Burger with fries. She said “Loved the menu range! I’ll be back.”
Mel had the grilled chicken salad and drank a cardamon and lemongrass latte with biscotte. She said “This really is my new favourite café! The food I ate was perfect, an awesome balance of flavours and plenty of yummy options for peeps with different dietary requirements. The hot drinks selection was fab, so many cool, healthy and experimental choices … I want them all! I have a feeling that this place may become hard to get into because it is very popular. The whisper is that they are planning to extend their opening hours to include dinner soon, oh yes!”
Joe had the Mr Benne with tea smoked Marlborough king salmon and drank the homemade iced tea. He said “Definitely exceeded expectations. Excellent food and plating in a suburban cafe.”
Emilie had the salmon omelette and drank a soy fat white. She said “It’s a busy little place. Their smoothie is amazing. My omelette was a bit dry though…”
Rebecca had the wild forest mushroom on grilled polenta and drank the power gulp (celery, cucumber, green apple, kale, and pear.) She said “Presentation on point! Loved the fresh juice and the poached eggs on polenta had so much flavour.”
