Not just a pretty face... | 16.2.09

We've got a new HuskieWith Lou about to bring another mini-Husky into the world, it became clear we were going to need to bring someone else in to share the design load here at Husk. Several worlds collided and taa-daa - mid-February saw Natalie Fejos came on the scene! Moving on from the magazine industry, she jumped at the chance to join the team and has already mastered the Monday morning coffee order and the ways of home-baked carrot cake bribery. You'll no doubt hear from her as Lou and Nat job share the studio management role over the next few months. However, Nat has stated clearly that Lou will be doing all the pushing herself! We're all amped about our summer breaks - Lou is going to Whiritoa in the Coromandel for some serious sun action; Innie is leaving on a jetplane to Sydney for 3 weeks to visit family; Luke is off on a beach-crawl, wave-chasing surfing safari and Janina is 'Thelma & Louise'-ing it, roadtripping from the South Island back up to Auckland. Whatever your plans are, we hope you stay safe, relaxed and happy... and we will catch up again in '09!

Welcome Luke Darby | 24.9.08

Husk Creative's new designer, Luke DarbyWe are pleased to introduce our latest addition to the Husky design team - Luke 'the Spook' Darby. A mostly self-taught jack of all media, Luke's passion for the creative has seen him produce everything from magazines to websites to corporate videos. He said (without any form of payment) "After seeing the quality of work produced at Husk, I jumped at the opportunity to join the team. It's going to be a big learning curve, but I'm up for the challenge - I'll just need coffee on an intravenous drip!"
True to his word, Luke has produced some scrummy design work, and with a meagre record of only 5 coffees in one day! When not in the studio, Luke can be found hangin' with his kids Sam (4) and Ruby (2) or catching a wave out at Piha.

TV Launch of seektofindGod.com | 7.8.08

Image ALT goes hereAt 8pm tomorrow, a new kind of campaign will be launched on NZ TV and will run right through August. A 60-second tv commercial, not unlike a movie trailer will give a tantalising glimpse of an amazing true story and rounds off with “see what happens next at www.seektofindGod.com". The story describes New Zealander Ian MacCormick, fatally stung by a box jellyfish when diving and then... well the intrigue begins! Get hooked - watch the TVC or visit seektofindGod.com. Brought to you by our good friends at the boutique ad agency Black.

You're the voice, try and understand it. | 7.8.08

Husk Creative designs Soul Purpose Magazine Spring 2008 IssueReckon you've got something worth saying? In this issue, SP Editor Ben Kendrew looks into whether it's better to pipe up or shut up. SP also get thorough with the Olympics, pop a few myths about zits and give you the skinny on spring fests nayshun-wide. Another great issue c/o Hayden, Elliot, Ben, Liz and the team hitting the streets/tarseal/bitumen this week (and we know just what bitumen is 'cos we watch a LOT of Bob the Builder around here). Michelle on Maternity Leave | 18.7.08

Michelle Sarkar from Husk Creative goes on Maternity LeaveIt's an emotional little day today for the Huskies today as we farewell our senior designer, baking queen and talent extraordinaire, Michelle Sarkar. 'Moo', as she is affectionately called around the studio, is about to embark on the steepest learning curve of her life - the journey of motherhood. Eeeep! Though Lou, Innie, Janina and Blair (and probably many of our dear clients) will miss her terribly, we wish her and Adam all the best as they take a deep breath and step into their brand new world. Watch this space for goss, pics and all things baby.

Buy Organic Because... | 1.7.08

HUSK believe in buying organic fruit and vege to avoid pesticides...there are a whole pile of fruits and vegetables that are known to be highly pesticide-exposed. Noshtopia published this list of some of the most pesticide-contaminated produce at your average supermarket, of which we had little clue.

Apples >> Capsicum >> Celery >> Nectarines >> Strawberries >> Cherries >> Lettuce >> Grapes >> Pears

Many of these fruit and veges are things we eat every day, so it's good to sharpen up. (If all this organic blah blah just makes you tired, you can relax about buying organic for fruit like bananas, oranges, tangerines and grapefruit because you hiff the skin anyway).

Just Living Reflects on the Hikoi of Hope | 20.4.08

Husk Creative designs Just Living Winter 2008 IssueJust Living's Winter issue, themed around the Hikoi of Hope, has just rolled off the press in Christchurch. The pages journey us through the years since the Hikoi of Hope, (which addressed concerns for Education, Health, Unemployment, Housing and Poverty) and then contrasts the calls for change with our current situation decades later. Just Living urges us to think critically about our lives, the world, community, faith and justice, and we are pleased to be influenced by them. Sign up. Join in. Walk on. Read more.

Welcome Innie Huh | 17.4.08

Husk Creative welcomes Innie HuhWe are excited to announce the newest (and sweetest) addition to our Husk family - 25-year-old Innie Huh, fresh out of design school with talent to boot. She a very happy kiwi-korean and is the fastest illustrator in the studio (basically way out of our league!). Innie is married to Billy, loves drawing, food and dressing up and slurps the most scary-looking (yet surprisingly tasty) green tea we've ever seen. She also brings her slippers to work - a good sign we think. We look forward to introducing her to your fine selves.

Thanks to new editor Ben, Hayden, El, Liz and the writers for such great team-work. Chur.

Husk is 'Going Green' in 2008 | 11.1.08

Husk Creative becoming a sustainable graphic design business in 2008Husk have been wondering what they can do to help restore the planet to what it once was...you know... back in Adam and Eve’s day. They didn’t have to worry about their excess household waste or pesticides on their apple trees. Yet the issue of sustainability has come up on our generation with sneaky little tip-toe feet. This Christmas, we decided to take the reindeer by the antlers - 2008 is gonna see Husk shift towards better and more sustainable business practice.
That said, we know that we really can’t be a truly sustainable business until even our impressively large monitors and our ergo office chairs are made from recyclable organic materials; until the husk beetle is powered by zoo-doo; and until we reuse every sheet of paper until it shreds itself...that sort of revolution is obviously ages away. But in the meantime, we believe our little choices and changes will add up to a big win-win situation - both for us, our kids and our little dent in the planet. We invite you to read more about the changes we're making.

T'is The Season... | 21.12.06

T'was the night before Christmas when all through the house, not a keyboard was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the iMacs with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The creatives were nestled, snug in their chairs, with visions of powercuts crashing hardware;
With Lou in her 'kerchief, and Moo in her cap...blah blah.....actually, who has time to write such drivel! There are Christmas parties to be had?! Merry Christmas from the HUSKIES! Stay safe and we will see you again from 8 January on. Bless bless.
