Husk gets Hardwired | 25.2.10
The Attitude presenters over at Parents Inc. work such wonders with teenagers that we had no problems jumping at the opportunity to redesign their latest Hardwired booklet. With a jam-packed 54 pages about 'growing, inhaling and injecting life’, this booklet is full of helpful stories about addictions, drugs and alcohol. The new ‘Brain Theft Auto’ section compares the world of drug use to the world of video games, taking the user from the first hit through to possible doom in the life of a drug addict. This book is a must have for teenagers (and their parents!). Cover art by Attitude.Labels: graphic design, not-for-profit, values-driven

One of our favourite moments during Christmas just gone was putting together our client Christmas campaign called 'Lanterns of Hope'. We assembled packages of 'amazing flying lanterns' and sent them to our clients around the country to release to the heavens on New Years' Eve with their hopes for the 2010 year. The lanterns made for many beautiful, biodegradable and fun experiences and we've heard heaps of stories. Now we just need the rest of the footage for our Husk 'Lanterns of Hope' short film. If you haven't sent yours in yet, please do asap!

Located at the east end of Waiheke Island, a beautiful vineyard owned by Bridget and Daren Day, sits on a ridge with breathtaking views. But go beyond the landscape and you're also taken on a voyage into the history of the island of Waiheke, wine, and viticulture. View East is not just a vineyard - it's a taste and lifestyle experience - and you can even stay the night, the true wandering wine-romancer's dream. Check out the new website the Huskies have just designed for them - it may even inspire you to take a trip, stay a while in their tasting room and come away with a few bottles in hand...
The Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind, in association with Black and Husk, have just put out a DM piece to promote the purchase of appropriate gifts for visually-impaired Kiwis... specifically for Mums. From large-print playing cards to a magnified compact mirror and a talking watch, the catalog has a great range of inspiring and fun pressies perfect for those who need to think outside the box in their gift-giving.
We recently began designing a new project for the EcoMatters Environment Trust - the Green Living Guide for Waitakere! We are working on a great website full of helpful tips for communities, families and sustainability concerned people, and are looking forward to the next part of the project - a handy pocket guide. Watch this space as this great project gets rolled out.
We often take for granted that we can fly places, or fill our cars up with petrol. And we definitely don't give a thought to who is doing what behind the scenes. But these guys do! NZ Safety Management Systems are a clever trio behind the scenes that work with companies and organisations to make sure everything happens safely and sensibly. And recently we enjoyed working on their new branding, brochures, presentations and business cards.
The Leprosy Mission's inTouch magazine has had a little bit of a makeover with the first new-look issue flying out the studio door this month. The magazine is full of wonderful stories about lives being changed through the incredible work of The Leprosy Mission both locally and around the world. Interesting articles include Eyesight Saving in China, the isolation of leprosy and a wee blurb about their new-look, soon to be launched website designed by HUSK and built by
The first issue of TearFund's new Correspondent went out at the beginning of March. The handy newspaper-like layout is full of interesting articles ranging from achieving dreams through Child Sponsorship and giving children the opportunity to study. Though it's a bit of sad departure from the popular (and our favourite) No.8 magazine format, it is definitely still worth a read! So fire up the jug and get comfy.
The Production Co. recently had a big bunch of people they wanted to thank/honour/bless/spend time with/be generous to (as they frequently do), and this time around, decided to ship them off to the enjoy Dave Dobbyn, Anika Moa and Opshop amongst the vines on the More FM Winery Tour. We got the fun job of making some hot little ticket holders for the lovely pressies and reckon they made handy little coasters on the day too!
With global food prices increasing 83% in the last 3 years, this refreshing little 'just gardening' booklet from the Social Justice Commission provides heaps of great community solutions and cost-saving ideas for growing your own veges...and having fun in the process! This booklet replaces the SJC's Just Living newsletter and will be produced quarterly - keep an eye out for the next booklet with a different 'just' theme...
For most of us, our knowledge of netball is limited to watching a few Silver Ferns games if we are lucky enough to get tickets, or cheering our kids on as we stand on the sideline. But, backed by Netball New Zealand, the national game of netball has become so much more. Husk are proud to have designed NNZ's latest Annual Report covering their 2008-9 achievements, teams, tests and highlights and of course, the financial side of the sport. We love our girls at NNZ and enjoyed putting this Annual Report together to show their best work off.

To our utter despair, the owners of one of West Auckland's few decent cafes, Arum in Kelston, sold up several months back and moved on. Lucky for us, they decided to pack some Huskies in their chillybins! We have recently completed the branding for their brand new cafe 'Skalinada' launching in Mt Wellington mid-February 2008. Tihana, Natalia, Chris and the team are incredible chefs with food so well presented, you will be baffled into starvation through indecision. Meet us there for coffee one day soon. Go on. We won't say no.

The humble huskies are excited to have had some of their recent work associated with two different award ceremonies. Firstly, an advertisement we designed for the World Society for the Protection of Animals was used at the Genesis Awards USA, an annual event in Hollywood put on by HSUS as an award ceremony for TV/film. And even more cool - the recent Annual Report we did for Netball NZ has been short-listed as a finalist in the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants 2007 Annual Report Awards in the category for 'Best Annual Report by a Service Organisation/Volunteer Sector'.
